TIP Diyarbakir Provincial Chair: Cross-border military operations motion aimed at Kurdish gains
The Turkish state’s cross-border invasion attacks targeting the Kurds continue. The bill for “cross-border operations”, which was voted on in Parliament last week, was passed with the votes of the AKP, MHP and IYI Party. The HDP, TIP and, surprisingly, CHP voted ‘No’ to the motion.
Diyarbakır Provincial Chair of the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP), Salih Sargın, spoke about the cross-border operations by the Turkish state and the “No” vote against them.
Sargın said that they voted ‘No’ to the motion because they did not want Turkish soldiers to continue the occupation of another country’s territory, and added that they did not approve of the invasion attacks because they had a policy against war and in favour of peace.
Sargın said that they were of the same opinion in the previous resolutions and added: “From now on, we will vote ‘No’ against the motions that Turkey will bring to the parliament. A losing government voting for extension of the bill for 2 years means trying to show itself as strong and is an entire electoral act. Because the government knows that it has lost and it wants to set the people against each other by starting a war. Again, he is promoting wars to benefit warlords and arms dealers. That’s why we are absolutely against the war and we cannot turn a blind eye to the government’s aims. First of all, the resolutions that the government has brought to parliament in recent years are aimed at the gains of the Kurds. They are trying to strangle the Kurds because they do not want them to maintain these gains.”
‘The CHP should now act according to its vote’
Sargın underlined that they believe in the brotherhood of Kurdish and Turkish workers and that they are engaged in politics in line with this goal. “We are against war policies. We stand by the Kurds and by all the peoples under occupation. All opposition parties should do the same. The CHP voted ‘No’ to the motion and this is a positive development. However, its future policies should be carried out according to this development. I wish they had shown the same attitude in previous resolutions. The important thing is for the CHP to give similar reactions to the Kurdish issue and other problems by taking this latest development as a reference for the future.”
