KCDK-E: States let migrants die for their interests

The co-presidency council of the Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress in Europe (KCDK-E) released a statement about the latest situation on the Belarusian-Polish border.

“For a week now, there has been a human drama on the Belarusian-Polish border. Thousands of migrants, mostly Kurds, are facing death between the Belarusian and Polish borders,” said the Kurdish umbrella organization and pointed out that according to press reports, more than 20 migrants have died at the border in the past week due to hunger and cold.

“Migrants are squeezed into a corridor of death”

The statement of the KCDK-E said: “No human being leaves the land of his birth voluntarily unless he has to. International powers that have turned Kurdistan into a war zone are taking an inhumane attitude towards Kurdish refugees. The powers that are directly responsible for the causes of flight are simply watching this drama of humanity. Our hearts break when we see the migrants, among them many women and children, being squeezed into a death corridor at the border.

“Beyond words – states are letting migrants die”

We have been watching with concern the anti-refugee policies of European states in recent years. However, what is currently happening at the Polish-Belarusian border cannot be put into words. States are letting those migrants die in order to protect their interests.

“Flight is not a fate, but the result of a policy”

We appeal to all people who have a conscience and live in these countries. Migration is not a destiny, it is a result created by the governments that govern the countries where you live. The conscience of societies must not be silent in the face of this inhumane practice. Every person who still wants to call himself a human being must stand up for migrants, who face death between the two borders.

“Raise your voices, do not be accomplices in this crime against humanity”

The states that do everything possible to cover up the drama that the migrants experience at the Polish-Belarusian border, where not even the needs for water and food can be met, and also the states that close their eyes and ears to this drama, must not forget that one day they will be found guilty by history. It is time to speak out and not be an accomplice in this crime against humanity.”

“We advocate for every activity for migrants”

Journalists, writers, artists and politicians who still have a conscience, as well as all human rights organizations in European countries, must cry out in the face of this human drama. Standing up for migrants means standing up for humanity. In this sense, we as KCDK-E support every action that is carried out for the migrants. We assume that our entire structure will stand up for the migrants abandoned to hunger and death.

“We call for action!”

As KCDK-E, we demand that the migrants, among them many Kurds, are immediately taken out of this death corridor and brought to an environment where they can be cared for. We demand that all European states and the UNHCR fulfill their responsibility. We demand that the rights guaranteed to refugees in the Geneva Convention be fulfilled as soon as possible.

First and foremost, however, our central demand is the opening of a humanitarian corridor for those migrants who are struggling with hunger and cold. We call on all humanitarian organizations, especially UNICEF and the Red Cross, to take action on behalf of the migrants.”
