Four activists from Behdinan sentenced to prison in Hewler

The final hearing of a case in which Behdinan activists Şêrwan Teha, Bendewar Eyub, Karker Ebas and Mesûd Elî stand trial was held earlier today at the Hewler 2nd High Criminal Court.

Lawyer Herem Rifet revealed that the court sentenced Şêrwan Teha to two years and six months, Mesûd Elî Şengalî to three years and six months, and Bendewar Eyub and Karker Ebas to one year and two months each.

The lawyer said that Eli Şengalî received a prison sentence only because he sent a letter to the US Embassy to ask for support for non-governmental organizations. The lawyer stressed that the decision is unfair and has no legal basis.

‘A SERIOUS VIOLATION OF LAW’

Lawyer Beşdar Hesen made the following remarks in a press release: “The court seriously violated laws. The trial is over. We will appeal to a higher court within 30 days. We hope that the court of appeal does not rely on these documents and decides to release them.”
