Peace Mothers call on Kurds to take action and demand freedom for Abdullah Öcalan

The isolation imposed on Kurdish people’ leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held in İmralı Prison for 22 years, is getting heavier. While there has been no news from Öcalan for 7 months, the applications made by his lawyers and his family to visit him are either going unanswered or are rejected on the grounds of disciplinary penalties.

Members of the Hakkari Peace Mothers Council called for an end to the isolation.

Zozan Gürbüz, a member of the Peace Mothers Council, told Jinnews that it is not acceptable not to hear from Öcalan and added that lawyers and family visits should be granted as soon as possible. Zozan said: “As Peace Mothers, we want peace, not war. We want news about Abdullah Öcalan now. We want the isolation to end. We want his lawyers to meet with the Leader. He hasn’t had a proper lawyer’s visit in 22 years. We want Abdullah Öcalan to be free. We want to hear the message of Abdullah Öcalan.”

‘We condemn the isolation of the leadership’

Gülbeyaz Mıhçı, member of the Peace Mothers Council, said: “There has been no news from the Leader for 7 months. Neither his family nor his lawyers have heard from him. We condemn this situation. We want to hear from the Leader. Öcalan represents the freedom of the Kurdish people. We condemn this isolation on the leadership. All Peace Mothers and everyone living in 4 parts of Kurdistan should take action for the Leadership.”
