Turkey’s Workers’ Party pays visit to HDP
A delegation of the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP) paid a visit to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and said, “The third way is of vital importance.”
The TIP delegation consisted of the party chair Erkan Baş, its central committee member Doğan Ergün, and party spokesperson Sera Kadıgil. The delegation held talks with HDP co-chair Mithat Sancar, deputy co-chair Tuncer Bakırhan and deputy Muazzez Orhan.
Erkan Baş stated that his party evaluated and attached importance to the recent declaration published by HDP. Baş remarked that the declaration imposes a responsibility on them; “It does not matter whether we call it the 3rd way or 3rd alliance. This issue has now become urgent, we shoulder this responsibility.” He stressed that the alliance in question should not be restricted to an electoral alliance and recommended forming “a unity of struggle where Turkey’s oppressed come together”. Baş said that the 3rd alliance should be attentive to further participation. He added that the framework of a possible electoral alliance should soon be clarified.
‘EVERYONE SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN THIS ALLIANCE’
HDP co-chair Sancar expressed that his party found the framework drawn by TIP and its attitude towards the HDP declaration very valuable. “We agree on creating a method and a model. We are in favour of the broadest possible alliance of those oppressed and victimized.” According to Sancar, the alliance should be based on principles, in which those who are uncomfortable with the current state of affairs and the way Turkey is governed should take part.
Speaking about the election process, Sancar said that the 10 million people who may vote for the 3rd alliance are very likely to play a decisive role in shaping the country’s democratic future. “We have important opportunities ahead of us, the conditions are more favourable than ever to carry out such an election campaign. We will concretize the alliance strategy step by step by considering the suggestions and evaluations from other parties and political groups.”
Bakırhan, who has long been meeting non-governmental organizations and political parties on behalf of the HDP, pointed out that they had carried out similar activities before, but this is the first time that his party has enjoyed great interest.
