Chair of Revolutionary Party: This war is for the survival of the government
The chair of the Revolutionary Party, Elif Torun Öneren, said that the AKP-MHP government, which was given the green light by the majority in the Assembly to continue the war against the Kurds in Syria and Iraq, is concerned about its own survival.
Speaking to ANF, Öneren said: “The AKP-MHP fascist government wants to maintain its own survival with policies it carries out against the poor people, women, workers and students, and of course the Kurdish people. The government knows it cannot survive. We know it too, but now the government has finally realised that. With the foreign mission’s mandate extended for two more years and the decision to go to war, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s biggest goal is to attack the Kurdish people’s lands in North-East Syria. Recently, military vehicles in northern Syria prove it. Actually, Erdoğan has two goals; The first is to bring war to the fore and to maintain its own existence by creating chaos. His second goal is to fix the international image he lost by coming to the agenda with the war.”
Noting that the AKP-MHP bloc actually attacked the poor, workers, women, students and all socialists at the same time, Öneren said: “There is a war waged against us by the fascist bloc. We are facing the fascism that they have been feeding and nurturing for years. Occupation, nationalism, racism policies. These attacks are not due to their strength. They stem from their fears, anxieties, and the knowledge that they will be judged.”
The people pay the price of war
Pointing out that the war bill was approved during a period in which budget negotiations were ongoing, Öneren continued as follows: “War means hunger, misery, poverty. In particular, women, children and workers are the groups that have been hit the hardest. This war is not our war. It is a war waged by the government on us. This war is for the survival of the government. Like every war, this war comes out of the pockets of the people. Every bullet spent, every tank is coming from the budget that should be used for the people. Even the minimum wage is currently below the poverty line. We want the budget to be allocated to peace and the poor, not to war.”
This dictator will fall
Reminding that no dictator can survive with war policies, Öneren said: “No government that has hungered its people and has transferred all the budget to war for its power can survive. Many dictators were buried in the dark pages of history.”
