HPG reports heavy fighting between guerrillas and Turkish troops in South Kurdistan
The Press Office of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement about the latest situation in the Turkish state’s ongoing military operation seeking to invade the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
The statement published on Friday includes the following:
“In the Avaşîn Region:
On October 23, the Turkish army launched a large-scale military operation in the areas of Stûnê, Gûndê Çiye, Girê Şehîd Rizgar, Girê Şehîd Fırat and Girê Şehîd Elî in Avaşîn region. On October 25 night, the Turkish army bombed the Girê Şehîd Dîren area with explosives after it airdropping troops.
On October 27, the Turkish army bombed the Girê Şehîd Dîren area 10 times with explosives. On October 28, the Turkish troops seeking to advance towards the area were hit by our forces using sabotage tactics. At least one Turkish soldier was killed as a result of the action.
On October 27, at 16:08, the Girê Kartal Resistance Area was bombed with explosives.
On October 29, the Turkish army launched an invasion operation in the Basya and Stûnê areas.
Our forces are mounting historic resistance with an Apoist militant spirit against this large-scale invasion operation launched by the Turkish army.
Hand-to-hand fighting between the Turkish troops and our forces continues.”
