Police detain shopkeeper in Siirt for speaking against Kurdish denial

During a visit by IYI Party chair Meral Akşener to the province of Siirt in Northern Kurdistan on October 28, shopkeeper Cemil Taşkesen told Akşener that, “Our language, identity and Kurdistan are denied. We are against the denial. The place where you are visiting now is Kurdistan, but unfortunately, its existence is denied in the Parliament.”

One day after the incident, Taşkesen was detained in line with an investigation launched against him over his remarks.

Siirt Police Department announced that an investigation has been launched against the shopkeeper by the Kurtulan Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for “making propaganda for a terrorist organization”.
