KDP forces open fire on civilians, killing one

According to local sources, armed forces affiliated with the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) opened fire on local Wezîr Tayîp Rêkanî and another person whose name remains unknown in the Balindê Valley in the Sheladize town of southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

The attack reportedly took place on the night of October 26. The people in question came under fire when they approached the Border Guards checkpoint.

Wezîr Tayip Rekanî, a member of the Rekanî Tribe, was killed by the KDP forces, while the other person’s aftermath remains unknown.

It is reported that Wezîr Rekanî, who was a relative of one of the KDP officials named Haşim Sîteyi, was attacked while going to the Balinde Valley to put his animals to grass.

Local sources stated that the KDP forces opened fire on Rekanî and his friend without any warning, and Rekanî was shot in the shoulder and head.

While Rekanî was laid to rest by his family, the KDP did not allow the family to accept condolences at a funeral house.

“We reject and condemn these attacks. It should be known that these attacks by the KDP forces will not go unanswered,” the Sheladize Youth Assembly said on their Facebook account.
