4th hearing in the Kobanê Case to be held on Monday

The 4th case of the lawsuit filed against 108 people, including former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairs, Central Executive Board (MYK) members and executives, about the protests held on 6-8 October 2014 over the ISIS attacks on Kobanê will be held tomorrow. Monday, at Ankara 22nd Heavy Penal Court. The 108 defendants are on trial for 29 different charges. The prosecutor demands 38 life sentences and a total of 19,680 years in prison.

The indictment, consisting of 3,530 pages and 324 folders, was submitted to the court on 30 December 2020, 6 years and 3 months after the protests against ISIS’s attack on Kobanê. The indictment, which was written by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in 6 years, was accepted by the Ankara 22nd High Criminal Court on 7 January 2021.

The specially appointed committee continued the hearings without interruption and tried to close the trial quickly. Upon the intense objection of the lawyers, it was decided to hold a hearing for two weeks and to take a pause for one week. Three hearings have been held, for a total of 15 sessions, so far.
