Human rights activist detained in Mersin

In the Toroslar. district in the Mediterranean province of Mersin, Turkish military police stormed an apartment and detained human rights activist Tahir Tüyben. Tüyben is a board member of the Human Rights Association (IHD) in Mersin and is accused of “terrorist organization propaganda” based on posts on digital networks. It is unclear for which organization the activist is said to have carried out propaganda. He is being held at the gendarmerie command center in Mersin.

Several homes in Mersin were already raided by police on Tuesday. At least two were taken into custody in connection with investigations into support for political prisoners.
