Students deliberately deprived of their right to education by Turkish attcks in Til Temir

9 September is recognized by the UN as the day to protect education against attacks. On this day, thousands of children are deprived of their right to education in Til Temir due to the attacks by the Turkish state. The UN and international organizations ignore this.

After the occupation of Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî, hundreds of thousands of children were deprived of their right to education. The same happens in Til Temir. Children cannot go to school in Til Temir, because it is under constant attack by the Turkish state.

Speaking on the subject, Til Temir Schools Administration co-chair, Ebdulrezaq El Kinêhir, told ANHA that 18 schools in Til Temir are the target of the attacks carried out by the Turkish state.

“The invading Turkish army and its mercenaries are deliberately targeting schools. All the walls of the El Kozeliyê school were destroyed by the bombardment. In addition to this, other schools in Bab El Xêr, Ebuş and Zirgan were also targeted.”

El Kinêhir underlined that schools should be protected and added: “Despite international agreements signed by 63 states, the Turkish state is attacking children’s educational institutions. However, not a single state that has signed these agreements spoke against and condemned them. This shows that UN laws are only valid on paper.”

El Kinêhir continued: “We have been calling on UNICEF since the day of the attacks on educational institutions. We request that a delegation be sent to the region to detect and report the attacks carried out by the Turkish state. The Turkish state has turned many schools into military bases. All this is a crime under international law.”

El Kinêhir said: “Serious pressure must be exerted to stop these crimes carried out by the Turkish state. The return of children to their schools may only be possible if the attacks by the Turkish state are stopped.”
