AKP trustee gives village guards management of historical and touristic Edremit

Edremit, the district of Van, known for its historical and natural beauties, has recently become the center of income for AKP and MHP supporters. Although the HDP candidates won with 70 percent of the votes in the 2019 elections, the municipality of Edremit, which was handed over to AKP trustee, Ismail Say, was previously ruled by trustee Atıf Çiçekli.

At the handover ceremony Atıf Çiçekli held for Ismail Say, he said: “The people of Edremit were ungrateful to us in the elections, it wouldn’t do them any good.”

However, just like previous trustee Çiçek, Ismail Say has the same partner: the family and relatives of the head of the village guards, Şaban Kahraman, who terrorized Van in the 90s with his gang called Şimşekler. The village guard gang, which has taken over the Edremit Municipality for the last five years, has been plundering almost all the facilities of the municipality.

Municipal stores sold to village guards

Six shops built in the district center during the HDP government were sold to Memduh Kahraman from the Kahraman family by the trustee Çiçek. It is not known at what prices these shops were sold.

Ayşegül Kahraman from the same family was the assistant of Çiçek added wealth to her fortune in a short time, and is currently building four blocks on the beach. Buildings are under construction. After Kayyum Çiçek, Ayşegül Kahraman was dismissed by Ismail Say after some municipal executives complained about the rent fight.

Old municipality building sold

The old town hall, whose property belongs to the municipality, was also sold to the Kahraman family. The Kahraman family also rented the building to AKP members. The old town hall is now used as a market named A 101.

Management of Maiden’s Castle

The greatest gift to Memduh Kahraman and Ayşegül Kahraman was given to the family by Ismail Say who gave them the management of the cafe.
