Activists from Frankfurt take over Freedom for Öcalan Vigil in Strasbourg

The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil was launched in Strasbourg, on 25 June 2012. Activists have been demanding the freedom of the Kurdish people’s leader for 481 weeks.

A group from Frankfurt took over the vigil this week. The group includes Fırat Vural, Taylan Güven and Fatih Yağan.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Fırat Vural said that with this action the Kurdish people showed that they are serious in their demand for freedom. Vural continued, “With this action, we are expressing our determination every day.”

Fırat Vural pointed out that the isolation, political genocide, occupation and massacres carried out by the Turkish state against Öcalan and the Kurdish people have been carried out with European support, and added: “Our determination will definitely defeat the Euro-centric conspiracy politics, which is the building force of the Imrali torture system imposed on our Leader.”

Vural said that the European institutions do not want to work for a permanent solution and just express “concern” about the war concept and crimes against humanity committed by the Turkish state. The vigil, added Vural, exposed the complicity of European states.

The activist added that the “Dem Dema to Azadiyê” operation, which was launched on 12 September 2020 “against isolation, genocide and occupation”, has gone on for one year, showing that nobody can ignore the will of a people.

Fırat underlined that by organizing wherever they are, the Kurdish people will break isolation and build the free future they longed for.
