Three detained in Mersin and Maraş

In Mersin, several apartments have been stormed by soldiers and police. The background to this is an investigation being conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Maraş, which is apparently directed against relatives of political prisoners. Two people were detained in the districts of Toroslar and Tarsus. Those involved are Tuba Salman and Cengiz Dere.

Dere used to be on the regional board of the TUAYDER solidarity association, which brings together relatives of prisoners. Prisoner support is systematically criminalized in Turkey. Salman and Tuba are accused of sending money to prisoners. A rotating hunger strike against inhumane prison conditions and the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan has been taking place in prisons since last November.

In the course of the same proceedings, a house search has also taken place in Maraş, during which an unnamed person was arrested. Tuba Salman and Cengiz Dere are also taken to Maraş.
