Men protest against violence against women in Aleppo

In Aleppo, men protested violence against women and declared, “We are all responsible.” The statement was delivered by Azad Hisên in front of the building of the People’s Council of the self-governing districts of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah.

Azad Hisên of the People’s Council’s Economic Committee pointed out that the Rojava Revolution, which was later extended to northeastern Syria, opened “the door to a free and democratic world” for all sectors of the population. A particularly outstanding aspect of this, he said, was that it was a women’s revolution. “At the same time, women and men have worked together at the political, military, diplomatic and social levels, building a common culture,” Hisên explained. Women in northern and eastern Syria have found ways to break out of oppression and develop in every way, he noted.

“Women have played a leading role in the revolution. They have pushed through great developments over years of work,” the statement continued. However, it said, there are still many direct and indirect attempts today to undo women’s achievements. Preventing this is the responsibility of society as a whole, it said.

After the statement, hundreds of brochures on violence against women were distributed. The brochures explain the various forms of violence and how they can be prevented.
