Lawyer Welat Hemê calls for release of Autonomous Administration representative Cihad Hesen

Forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) kidnapped the Autonomous Administration representative in Bashur Kurdistan while on his way to Hewlêr Airport on 10 June. Cihad Hesen has not been allowed to meet with his family or lawyers since the day of the arrest, 89 days ago. It has been learned that Hesen’s health condition is getting worse.

Speaking to ANHA on the subject, lawyer Welat Hemê said that the abduction of Hesen violated every rule of law and diplomacy. Hemê said: “We have learned that Cihad Hesen is in bad condition in prison. The South Kurdistan government will be responsible for anything that happens to him.”

Hemê continued: “there are diplomatic rules that the Bashur government must follow. They are also regulated by international law. However, the representative of the Autonomous Administration was abducted unlawfully despite all these rules.”

Hemê warned that the abduction of Cihad Hesen caused the problems between the Autonomous Administration and the Bashur Kurdistan government to deepen, and added: “We call on the Bashur government to release Cihad Hesen immediately. Relations with the representatives of the Autonomous Administration should be developed through legal means and the interests of the Kurdish people should be taken as a basis. It does not serve the Kurdish people to pursue personal interests and kidnap the representative of the Autonomous Administration.”

Expressing that the Kurdish people are going through a sensitive process, Hemê said: “Some circles are trying to cause strife among the Kurdish people in this sensitive process. These circles are directed by the Turkish state. Their aim is to make the Kurdish people fight among themselves. The government of Bashure Kurdistan should be careful against these provocations.”

Calling on international human rights organizations, Welat Hemê said that what happened to Cihan Hesen should be learned and that he should be released as soon as possible.
