Boğaziçi University academics continue their protest

The vigil protest against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s appointment of a trustee rector to Boğaziçi University continued on its 157th day.The protest was launched on January 4 against the appointment of Melih Bulu as rector. On August 23, Erdoğan appointed Prof. Mehmet Naci İnci as the new rector of Boğaziçi University, replacing Melih Buluç The vigil promoting autonomy of universities has received support from various circles of Turkish society, including intellectuals, writers and politicians.

The academics of the university gathered for the 157th time today to protest the dismissal of their colleagues and appointment of rector and turned their backs to the rectorate office.

The academics displayed banners that read, “We do not accept”, “We do not give up”, “Feyzi Erçin is not alone”, “Let Cemre Baytok return to work” and “Can Candan is not alone”.

The action continued with a sit-in protest.
