“Senar has left a great legacy to the Kurdish youth”

The coordination of the youth umbrella organization Komalên Ciwan issued a statement on the death of Serhat Göksu (code name: Senar Zagros). The former guerrilla fighter died on August 9 as a result of a serious injury in a hospital in Hamburg.

The Komalên Ciwan statement began by saying that every death in the ranks of the PKK increases the desire for retaliation and produces no result other than the intensification of the struggle.

The statement continued: “We have learned that our companion Senar Zagros (Serhat Göksu) has joined the caravan of martyrs on August 9. Heval Senar fought on the frontline in Gever during the period of resistance for self-determination against the murderous Turkish colonial state in Northern Kurdistan and was seriously injured in an enemy attack. Despite his will to survive and many years of medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.”

The Youth Coordination expressed its sympathy to the family of Zagros and the people of Kurdistan and informed that Serhat Göksu was born in the district of Karayazı in Erzurum province, which is known for its resistance. He grew up in a patriotic environment and was active in the youth movement until he joined the PKK in 2010. During his time in the youth movement, he was arrested and spent some time in prison. This made his anger and determination even stronger and he took to the mountains.

The Youth Coordination described Serhat Göksu as an enthusiastic person who was known for his rebellious attitude and selflessness. Before his injury in Gever, he participated in the defense of Maxmur against ISIS. “He lived and fought in the spirit of youth and became a symbol of struggle on the line of self-sacrifice. He has left a great legacy to the revolutionary and patriotic youth of Kurdistan. We make a promise to Comrade Senar that we will fight in his way until Kurdistan is freed,” Komalên Ciwan said, calling on Kurdish youth to join their ranks.
