Village guards resign as Turkish army suffers heavy losses in Metina

The invasion operation launched by the Turkish army against the areas of Zap, Metîna and Avashin on April 23 from air and land continues.

Many soldiers died in the last days during the operation carried out along the border line from Mount Cudi to Heftanîn and Metîna.

Local sources stated that the most violent clashes have taken place in the region in the last 4 months, and all of the areas of Zinara Kestel, Mizore, Hirore and Derarê in the Metîna region have turned into conflict zones.

Local sources noted that the conflict had increased in intensity since 17 August, and added that the Turkish army wanted to send village guards to the warzone given the losses it suffered.

The village guards were gathered from Şırnak centre, Uludere, Beytüşşebap and Idil, said the sources, adding that they wanted to be sent to the front to carry out ambushes.

The same sources said that the number of guards who resigned in the last 4 months has exceeded 200 and that more have resigned in the last 5 days.

The village of Elemûne in Uludere is one of the command centers of the operation. Both helicopter mobility and artillery fire have increased in recent days. At least 12 Skorsky helicopters and 2 cobra helicopters have been seen moving in the region.
