Guerrilla forces hit Turkish troops in Avashin

The People’s Defence Forces (HPG) Press Centre released a statement providing details of the latest actions by guerrillas and attacks by the Turkish army in Kurdistan territory.

The statement includes the following:

“As part of the Bazên Zagrosê Revolutionary Campaign:

On August 18, the battle tunnels in the Girê Sor area of ​​Avaşîn region were bombed with heavy weapons. Following the bombardment, the invading troops who attempted to advance towards the battle tunnels were shot at close range. As a result of an intervention by our forces, the Turkish troops had to retreat.

Between 13:00 and 14:00 on August 17, the Girê Cûdî area of ​​the Zap region was bombed with howitzers fired from the outposts on the border line. The fire which broke out at the scene as a result of the bombing is continuing.

On August 18, chemical weapons were used against the battle tunnels in the Girê Sor area of ​​Avaşîn region, and at 19:00 the battle tunnels were bombed with explosives. On the same day, chemical weapons were used against the battle tunnels in the Werxelê area. Intense Turkish drone activity continues in the area.

Between 20:45 and 23:20 on August 18, Turkish helicopter activity was observed in the areas of Mervanos, Tabûra Ereba, Girê Sor, Girê Spî and Girê Silêman in the Avaşîn region. Moreover, the Werxelê area was bombed by attack helicopters.

At 12:00 on August 18, the Karker and Şkefta Birîndara areas in the Zap region and between 05:00 and 06:00 on August 19, the Çemcho area were bombed with howitzers fired from the outposts in the border region. On the same day, between 21:00 and 22:00, the Type T area was bombed by attack helicopters. The fire started by the bombardment continues to rage.

Between 20:30 and 22:30 on August 18, Turkish helicopter activity was registered on the Qaşura line in the Metîna region. Furthermore, the vicinity of the villages of Êdinê, Deşîşê, Seraru in the Kanî Masî sub-district of Amadiya district and Kela Qumriyê and Koordîne areas were bombed by attack helicopters.”
