Floods strike northern Turkey, death toll rises to 70

The number of people who lost their lives in the flood disasters in Turkey has risen to 70. According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority AFAD, 60 people lost their lives in Kastamonu, 9 other people in Sinop and one in Bartın. 8 people have been hospitalized.

341 people have been evacuated in Ulus district of Bartın, 1,480 in Kastamonu and 560 in Ayancık district of Sinop. Some of those rescued have been placed in student dormitories and tents have been set up in the region.

It is reported that there are water cuts in Kastamonu Azdavay and Devrekani districts. Furthermore, water cannot be supplied to the neighbourhoods except the Derecik neighborhood in Bartın’s Abdipaşa district.

Meanwhile, a detention warrant has been issued for the contractor of a destroyed building in Kastamonu as part of an investigation launched after the flood disaster.
