Soldiers set forest on fire in Beytüşşebap

The Turkish military started a forest fire in the Kurdish province of Şırnak by shooting on Friday. Residents of Setkar village in Beytüşşebap district are prevented from extinguishing the fire by soldiers.

According to people from the area, the fire continues to spread, threatening barns and flocks of sheep. Earlier, soldiers fired at shepherds in the area and threatened them with death. The fire department in Beytüşşebap, which was informed on Friday evening, said that the fire will be extinguished today.

In order to deprive the guerrillas of movement area and drive away the population, forest areas in Kurdistan are systematically set on fire. Every year, devastating fires blaze in northern Kurdistan, devouring thousands of hectares of forest and cultivated land.
