Jailed artist joins hunger strike against isolation

Artist İlyas Arzu, who is jailed in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Closed Prison, announced that he has joined the hunger strike that has been going on for 260 days in Turkey’s prisons. In a phone call to his family, Arzu announced his participation in the ongoing indefinite-rotating hunger strike against the isolation of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

‘ARTISTS SHOULD NOT BE SILENT’

Arzu delivered a message to the public through his family: “As an artist, I am participating in the hunger strike to lift the Imrali isolation. As an artist, I did not want to remain silent against this unlawfulness and injustice. As we all know, artists are the collective conscience of the society. It is not possible for an artist to remain silent against such injustice,” Arzu said.
