Family of missing guerrilla expects an explanation from KDP

On July 26, a group of guerrillas was attacked in the vicinity of the Bêxme Village of the Xelîfan district of southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

In a written statement released on July 31, the HPG Press Centre urged the KDP to make an explanation for the three guerrillas who went missing.

The family of one of the missing guerrillas, Dijwar Berxwedan, from Hesekê went to the Semalka border crossing between Rojava and Southern Kurdistan to find out the whereabouts of their son.The family was prevented by KDP peshmergas and not allowed to cross into South Kurdistan.

The HPG Press Centre had stated first on July 29 that they lost contact with a group of guerrillas, which was on duty to go from one place to another, after reaching the vicinity of Xelîfan.

“According to the information we received from the local people, KDP-affiliated forces had learned the location of our group after a tip-off, and surrounded our comrades. Local people said that the area in question was surrounded by KDP forces and entrances and exits were prohibited. No other information can be obtained,” HPG said.

In another statement on July 31, HPG said they were still waiting for a statement from the KDP. The statement said: “On 26 July, we announced to our people and the public that contact with a group of comrades was lost in the vicinity of the village of Bêxme in Xelîfan, South Kurdistan. We said that we were waiting for an explanation from the KDP regarding the events that took place. The group is the group of our friend Serwer Serhat, who operates at the Xakurke Command. Commander Serwer set off on foot together with comrades Dijwar Berxwedan and Wargeş Çavreş. Comrade Serwer is an experienced commander who has gone through very important stages of resistance in Bakure Kurdistan. We established that he was attacked around the village of Bêxme in Xelîfan while he was on his way to reach the Behdînan area, in his new role as provincial commander. The outcome of the incident has not been clarified. We still have not received any information from the KDP about the fate of these comrades. We feel the need to share with the public once again that we are waiting for an explanation from the KDP on this issue.”
