Jailed HDP co-mayor of Nusaybin allowed to attend her father’s funeral

Galip Yusufoğlu passed away on Saturday, 7 August. A request was made by lawyers to allow former HDP co-mayor of Nusaybin Municipality, Sara Kaya, to attend the funeral of her father.

Kaya is held at Tarsus T Type Closed Prison.

The request was initially rejected by the Mardin Governorship and the Mardin Police Department on the grounds that they could not “provide security”.

However, as a result of further requests made by the lawyers and the initiatives of the HDP Headquarters, Kaya was allowed to attend the funeral.

Her father’s funeral was held in Nusaybin. Due to the coronavirus epidemic, only 30 people were allowed to attend the funeral.
