Guerrilla Şerker Demar talks about the Pyramid Hill action

It became one of the most widely broadcast images of the Bazên Zagrosê Revolutionary Campaign. Images taken from the head camera of HPG guerrilla Şerker Demar, describing the action against the invading Turkish army on the Pyramid Hill in Şûkê, Avaşîn in the Medya Defense Areas.

HPG guerrilla Şerker Demar, who is still resisting the invasion operation in the Avaşîn area, spoke about the details of this action to ANF.

Guerrilla Dermar said: “There was another friend with me in the attack wing. The friends in the defense group, on the other hand, joined the action with the assassination and B7 weapons. When we started to prepare to shoot from where we were, we saw a soldier looking at us with binoculars. In other words, he had spotted us and saw that we were coming towards the posts. At the same time, we saw that the enemy was hoisting a drone at us at a close distance. Since the ground between us and the enemy was clear, we decided to strike with the defenders first. In this way, we started the action and shot both our individual weapons and the B7 gun. There, the soldier who lifted that drone was killed. The drone, consequently, fell.”

Guerrilla Dermar added: “The soldiers were truly petrified by fear. For example, they walked for a whole day to go to a place where we went in 10-15 minutes. In our reconnaissance before we went into action, we saw an M-16 gun in the hands of a soldier on a post. I told my friends then that I would go and get that gun myself. When we went to the action area, we headed towards that post. Heval Pirdoğan hit that position with his B7 gun just then. In the action, our attack and defense groups were intertwined.

The defense group had approached the hill up to 50 meters. Although Heval Çekdar was a sniper, he entered the hill and was shooting the enemy with the Karnas gun in his hand. Here the soldiers dropped their weapons and fled. We passed near a body here. There were at least four other bodies in a different location. And again there were many wounded soldiers, there were sounds of shouting and groaning. We removed the BKC weapon from another position we reached. These weapons were almost never used. As a result, many weapons were removed from the enemy. That’s how we go back.”

HPG commanders salute the bravery of the guerrillas who carried out the action

As a result of the pyramid action, HPG guerrillas seized the MPT-55, BKC, 1 grenade launcher, 2 binoculars and a device from the soldiers. After this action, Turkish soldiers stopped their mobility in the area where the action took place for a long time and did not return to hold the positions where the action was taken.

The Pyramid Hill action, one of the most effective infiltration actions carried out during the Bazên Zagrosê Revolutionary Campaign, left its mark on the war history of freedom guerrillas. HPG commanders saluted the bravery of the guerrillas who carried out this action and the striking style of this action was shown as an example in many areas. The People’s Defense Central Headquarters Command, in a statement released on 3 August, congratulated this action and emphasized its importance.
