DTK-DBP visits Baskale hit by the flood: “The government is being hostile”

A delegation led by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Berdan Öztürk and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz visited flood-affected residents in Van’s Başkale district.

Initially visiting the Çux and Heratun neighborhoods, the delegation listened to residents who were outraged by the authorities’ indifference.

While the residents of the neighborhood asked the delegation to address their concerns, the DTK and DBP delegation later moved to the Xaşkan neighborhood, which was hit the hardest by the flood, and conducted investigations.

After listening to the people’s requests and reactions, DBP Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz said, “Unfortunately, the state has not fulfilled its responsibility despite the passage of days. A government that proclaims that ‘We are a great state,’ has abandoned the people of Xashkan.”

“But our parties and institutions have been with our people from the first day of the flood,” Aydeniz said. “We have always stood by our people to help them heal their wounds and compensate for their material losses,” she continued.

Aydeniz drew attention to the forest fires and flood disasters, noting that there was a catastrophe and that the government was at a moment in which it was unable to solve the issues.

“Such a great damage occurred because the waterways and ponds were not built correctly,” Aydeniz explained. She stated that the government’s legitimacy has lapsed and added, “As a result, it cannot even help people.”

The DBP Co-Chair drew attention to the forest fires and flood disasters, noting that there was a catastrophe and that the government was at a moment in which it was unable to solve the issues.

“We have seen in the Black Sea and the Aegean that they can only make fun of the people and throw tea in their heads. The peoples of Turkey and Kurdistan say ‘enough is enough’ to this government. “The policy of assimilation and destruction is currently being implemented all over Turkey. This flood disaster shows that the government is hostile and leaves the people alone.”

Aydeniz, who requested support for Başkale, stressed that the wounds could be healed together. She concluded, “We have never abandoned our people alone in a disaster, and we have always worked together to heal our wounds. Our people will never abandon our victims.”

Following their visit to Xaşkan, the delegation went to Hakkari.
