Turkish attack on Ain Issa injures a civilian

The Turkish army attacked the M4 highway near the self-ruled city of Ain Issa with artillery. In the attack, 35-year-old Aziz Şewket Bozan was injured. Bozan is the second person injured by M4 shelling in three days. The last time a civilian was injured was on August 1.

The M4 highway, and in particular the section of road near Ain Issa, is of strategic importance to the Turkish state. While the M4 is a vital east-west axis in northern Syria, the major cities of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor to the southeast are also connected to the M4 via the intersection at Ain Issa. In accordance with the cease-fire agreement negotiated between Turkey and Russia, Turkish troops are not allowed to approach further than two kilometers north of the M4. Nevertheless, attacks occur permanently with Russian approval.

The Afrin, Shera region was also attacked again with Turkish artillery. Shelling of the villages of Merenaz and Alqemiyê began at 12 noon local time.
