Kurdish women in Russia commemorate Martyr Zilan: We will win with her spirit

June 30 is the anniversary of Zilan’s (Zeynep Kınacı) action of self-sacrifice. Zilan blew herself up in a military parade in the province of Dersim on June 30, 1996, on her own initiative, setting a beacon. Kurds all around the world pay tribute to Zilan on the 25th anniversary of her action .

The Kurds in Russia held commemorations in the Yershov city in Saratov region and the city of Michurinsk, Tambov region.

The Kurdish women attending the commemoration in the Yujnii village stated that Kınacı’s action of self-sacrifice means regaining courage and enlarging the struggle for the Kurds.  

Çile Osmanova speaking on behalf of the Kurdish Women’s Council said, “We will remain loyal to the memory of Comrade Zilan and enhance the struggle till the liberation of the Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan”.

Expressing that Kınacı spread fear into the enemies’ hearts, Osmanova stressed, “Those following Zilan’s struggle line will always win” and added, “The guerrillas have responded to the Turkish state’s attacks with the self-sacrificing spirit of Comrade Zilan.”

Another memorial to pay tribute to Zilan took place in the city of Michurinsk. Speaking here, International Kurdish Women’s Organization (TJKN) member Fatma Arin remembered all the martyrs of the Kurdistan revolution in the persons of Zilan, Sema, Gulan and Deniz, and promised absolute loyalty to their memories.

“Zilan is the symbol of freedom and of the Kurdish women’s struggle against fascism,” she added.
