Activists at the Freedom for Öcalan Vigil in Strasbourg call for national unity against isolation

The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil, which was launched on 25 June 2012 in Strasbourg to demand freedom for the Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan and to lift the isolation imposed on him, has just entered its 10th year.

The activists who took over the vigil on the 471st week called for national unity against the isolation, occupation and genocide.

Representatives of religious institutions, TJK-E activists, and democratic Kurdistan community centres affiliated to the KCDK-E are carrying out the vigil.

Activists made a statement saying that “the most fundamental value that makes a nation such is the struggle for freedom. Democracy, freedom, equality and justice must be defended for all people under all circumstances.

All kinds of inhumane practices were put into effect against the Kurdish people and their leader in the Middle East and Turkey. The AKP-MHP fascist government of Turkey leads the attacks against the Kurds.

The Kurdish people are facing genocide. It is a historical obligation for the Kurds to fight together against the invading Turkish state. End the isolation and torture, end the isolation in Imrali, freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, status for the Kurdish people.”
