Peshmergas face pay cut for laying down arms in South Kurdistan

Tensions have escalated after the KDP provocation in Metina two weeks ago in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

Dêrin peshmergas as well as many other peshmergas and commanders affiliated to the Ministry of Peshmerga also expressed their reactions.

180 peshmergas have recently laid down their arms in the peshmerga training camp in Duhok to avoid a possible Kurdish civil war instigated by the KDP.

According to sources, this move has further encouraged other peshmergas to take a stand.

While some middle-level commanders threaten peshmergas who have no other income with dismissals, other middle-level commanders criticize the peshmergas

who have laid down their arms arguing that it is a betrayal.
