HPG reports continued air attacks on villages in South Kurdistan

Three Turkish soldiers and one contra were killed in guerrilla actions in South Kurdistan, according to a statement issued by the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) on the current war in the region. According to the HPG Press Office statement, the contra was killed in one of two sabotage actions carried out by guerrillas in Heftanin yesterday, while another contra was injured. The two vehicles were targeted at the Sîser hill in the Geliyê Pisaxa area.

In Metina, guerrilla units infiltrated two Turkish army positions on Koordine hill on Saturday evening. Three soldiers were killed in the shelling of one position; while it could not be determined with certainty how many occupants were in the other dugout. Earlier today, additional military positions on the Zendura hill were targeted by guerrillas.

HPG also reported continued air and ground attacks by the Turkish army in guerrilla and settlement areas in South Kurdistan. Throughout Saturday, the press office registered artillery strikes and aerial bombardments in several regions. In Metina, fighter jets attacked the Çarçel hill and the surrounding area of Zendura hill. In Avashin, the Turkish Air Force bombed the Werxelê and Girê Sor areas, and aerial activity also occurred over Mamreşo, Mervanos and Şûkê. In the Zap region, attack helicopters struck the Qela Bêdewê area, while jets flew attacks against the Cîlo yê Bîçuk area.

According to the HPG, the villages of Golka and Hiror near Kanî Masi near the town of Amadiya came under fire with mortars and howitzers from Turkish border posts. “The artillery fire caused severe property damage to the villagers’ cultivated land and vineyards, and a wildfire also broke out,” the HPG said. The flames continue to blaze and have not yet been extinguished. There were no guerrilla casualties as a result of the recent attacks, the statement added.
