HDP delegation pays solidarity visit to Alevi federation

A delegation of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has paid a solidarity visit to the headquarters of the Federation of Alevi Unions in Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul. The visit came after an allegation that a large-scale attack would be carried out soon against Alevi place of worship (tr. Cemevi) to stir up a conflict. The allegation was voiced by Turkish organized crime leader Sedat Peker in his latest video containing confessions about the relations with the state.

The HDP delegation, made up of deputies Musa Piroğlu, Ali Kenanoğlu, members of the Party Assembly and Istanbul provincial organisation, was welcomed by Celal Fırat, chairperson of Federation of Alevi Unions.

Speaking here, HDP MP Musa Piroğlu stressed that such critical statements by a mafia leader, who was a part of the mob that carried out massacres against Alevis in the past, would bear serious consequences. He stated that the AKP-MHP bloc pursued hostile policies against Kurds and Alevis in a bid to be able to stay in power.

Expressing that the history is full of massacres against Alevis and Kurds, Piroğlu continued, “The only thing generated by the hostile policy is a corrupted mafia order and repressive regime. Peoples who have been through massacres along the history have no chance rather than uniting against current dangers similar to ones in the history in order to eliminate these threats.”

‘PEOPLE MUST VOICE REACTION’

Celal Fırat, speaking in the wake of Piroğlu’s speech, pointed out the necessity of all peoples living in the country to say “No to Persecution” and continued, “We are living our traditions and customs. What does it mean to target oppressed peoples in this country? AKP established its power basing on victimhood, but it evolved to a power that itself victimises the oppressed peoples in this country. It is essential to stop this. The one to stop this is the people. The people should never remain silent against this situation. The mentality of inaction must be immediately given up. We will achieve this all together.”
