Solidarity with the struggle of Emine Şenyaşar

For three months, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit have been demanding justice for her murdered husband and sons in front of the courthouse in Urfa province. She is accompanied by more and more supporters. Today, groups from Amed (Diyarbakir), Mardin and Van came to show solidarity with her struggle.

With her action in front of the court, Emine Şenyaşar is demanding justice for her husband and two of her sons, who were murdered three years ago by a mob of relatives of AKP politician Halil Yıldız. Emine Şenyaşar’s third son, Fadıl, survived the attack injured but was sentenced to 37 years in prison. On flimsy grounds and without a ballistics investigation, he was accused of murdering the son of MP Halil Yıldız. According to eyewitnesses, the latter was killed by a ricochet of the bodyguards’ gunfire.

Among today’s visitors to the vigil were members of the Eğitim Sen education union from Amed, the co-mayor of Kızıltepe, Nilüfer Elik Yılmaz, who was deposed by the Turkish Interior Ministry and released from prison in April after a year and a half in pre-trial detention, as well as members of the BASK-DER cultural association from Wan.

Emine and Ferit Şenyaşar told the delegations about the attack at the time and the attempts by the Turkish authorities to prevent their vigil in front of the courthouse. Both have already been arrested several times. The visitors expressed their solidarity and vowed to continue supporting the family’s struggle for justice.
