Strasbourg vigil against occupation and genocide continues

The vigil in Strasbourg under the slogan “Against occupation and genocide, everywhere is Avaşîn, Zap, Metîna – Time for freedom!” has been taken over for the fourth week by activists from Switzerland. On the sidelines of the vigil, information dossiers on the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan and Turkey’s occupation attacks on Kurdistan were handed over to the permanent representations of the member states of the Council of Europe.

Since the beginning of the vigil, daily seminars and discussion events have taken place on the square in front of the Council of Europe. Today, the activists marched with “Freedom for Öcalan” signs in front of the Council of Europe and symbolically turned their backs on the building in protest. The Kurdish associations TJK-E and KCDK-E accuse the international community of tacit approval of the Turkish attacks.

Activists of the Kurdish women’s umbrella organization in Europe TJK-E made another high-profile action at the Homme de Fer stop. They displayed pictures of fallen guerrilla fighters with the inscription “Our children”.

The four-week vigil, supported by 78 Kurdish and Turkish organizations, will end on Friday. On Wednesday, a demonstration will take place from the Council of Europe to the U.S. Embassy.
