HPG: 14 Turkish soldiers killed in latest guerrilla actions

The press center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) has published a statement on the guerrilla resistance against the ongoing invasion of the Turkish army in South Kurdistan. According to the statement, fourteen Turkish soldiers were killed and several military positions were destroyed in retaliatory actions during the revolutionary offensives of the guerrilla forces. Six guerrilla fighters fell as martyrs in the resistance. HPG expressed their condolences to the families of the martyrs and to the Kurdish society.

Metîna and Heftanîn

On May 28, an A4 position of the Turkish forces in the Girê Sor area in Metîna was destroyed in response to air strikes against guerrilla areas. Three soldiers were killed in the action, and the A4 position was completely destroyed. Later in the evening, artillery fired by Turkish soldiers targeted the villages of Kêste, Hiror and the Zendûra hill. At the same time, the areas of Kêste and the Zendûra were overflown by attack helicopters. The guerrillas took the helicopters under fire and forced them to retreat.

On May 29, Turkish troops attempted to enter the guerrillas’ tunnel system on the Zendûra with a remote-controlled armored vehicle. The vehicle was destroyed. On the same day, the women’s guerrilla from YJA-Star struck Turkish ground forces moving from the Koxê Melê Yehya hill toward Keşan in Heftanîn. “While the occupiers were effectively struck, it could not be determined how many of them were killed,” the HPG said.

On May 19, heavy fighting broke out between a guerrilla unit and soldiers in Tîpa T area in the Zap region. In the course of the clashes, four soldiers were killed and two HPG members were martyred.

Two guerrillas martyred in Kuro Jahro

Two more guerrilla fighters were martyred in Turkish army bombardments in the Kuro Jahro area, also in the Zap region, on May 20.

Seven soldiers killed at Cîlo yê Biçûk

On May 28, guerrillas at Cîlo yê Biçûk area in Zap initially conducted a defensive action against an infiltration attempt in the tunnel facilities where two soldiers were killed. The Turkish Air Force responded with two successive attacks on the area. Later in the day, another attempt was made by occupation forces to infiltrate the tunnel system in Cîlo yê Biçûk. HPG and YJA-Star guerrillas countered with an infiltration operation on three fronts. The first wing focused on close-range shelling and resulted in three casualties for the Turkish army. The second wing targeted a dugout containing two soldiers. While it is unclear how many military personnel were killed by the defensive wing’s shelling, two guerrilla fighters fell as martyrs.

Chemical warfare agents used again

On May 29, the Turkish army used chemical warfare agents in bombardments of guerrilla tunnel systems at Cîlo yê Biçûk. Regarding other air and artillery attacks in southern Kurdistan, HPG said:

On the evening of May 27, the Sîda area in Zap was bombed with howitzers from the Turkish border post. In the course of the aggression, a field fire was ignited that still continues.

On May 28 and 29, the Tabura Ereban and Werxelê areas in Avaşîn were also bombed almost non-stop with howitzers from border posts. A conflagration continues to blaze here as well.

On May 29, fighter jets attacked the Zendûra in Metîna. In Zap, troop exchanges were registered on the Şehîd Serxwebûn and Petrut hills and in Qela Bêdewê. In Avaşîn, troops were exchanged in Mamreşo, Mervanos and Şûkê areas.

On May 30, the Sîda and Çemço areas in Zap were again bombarded with howitzers, fired from Turkish military border posts.
