Protest in Brussels against Turkey’s attacks, the US and NATO policies

The partnership of the USA and NATO with Turkey and their silence in the face of latest attacks in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) has been protested in Brussels.

The demonstration was promoted by a number of organizations including NAV-BEL (Belgian Democratic Kurdish Community Centre); ILPS (International League of People’s Struggle); HBDH Belgium (Peoples’ United Revolutionary Movement); KCDK-E (European Democratic Kurdish Society Congress); AIDL (International Alliance for Defence of Rights and Freedoms); VREDE (Belgian Peace Organization); YJK-B (Kurdish Women’s Union-Belgium); Belgian Kurdish Institute; Democratic Union of Belgium; RESIST US-led War Movement.

The protest began at 11:00 am this morning in front of the US Embassy in Boulevard du Régent 27.

The banners unfurled by the demonstrators read “NATO-US Hands off Kurdistan”, “Stop the fascist Turkish state’s barbaric invasion in Kurdistan”.

The crowd protested against the US bounty on PKK’s leading members Cemil Bayık, Murat Karayılan and Duran Kalkan as well as the Turkish occupation operation in Avashin, Zap and Metina regions in South Kurdistan.

In a speech in the name of NAV-BEL, Davut Keskin pointed to the guerrilla resistance against Turkish occupation attacks and the silence of western countries and the US.

Speaking after, an internationalist activist stated that the crimes to which the US and NATO are partner, are shaped in accordance with their economic and geopolitical interests. Highlighting the effect of these policies on not only Kurdistan and the Middle East but East Europe as well, the activist expressed solidarity with the Kurdish people.

Another internationalist activist condemned Turkey’s attacks on Zap, Avashin and Metina.

More speeches were held by the Democratic Forces Union, the Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe and HBDH.
